This is more like it.
Ok. So now I'm obsessed with this spot. I got to the spot nice and early today and it wasn't very long before I had a small doe walking toward me. She walked right under my stand and ate some hard, crunchy things. She was so small that she wasn't worth my thought of shooting, I would get more meat from Bacci! It was nice to watch her though. However, after about a half hour, I wanted her to walk away. She is just another set of eyes on me in case a bigger one shows up. She did eventually walk away and sure enough I saw a bigger doe. She came down the hill from the pit side and walked across the path and to the big field in the back. Not too long after that, another doe walked from the same way and walked up the path toward the pit and then also disappeared in to the big field. Not too much after that I saw a nice 6 (I think it was anyway) walk from the field, across the path and go up the hill. I watched up the hill and managed to get a glimpse of him walking into the woods that were up the hill. That was all for the night but it sure gave me a good feeling for this spot.

What a change two days can make!
So, after the day I had on Thursday, I had to get back to that spot. I was sure that it is only a matter of time before one of those bigger deer walked by me. Well, not today. I didn't see a thing!

I hate jumping spiders!!
I went to the club today. It was pretty warm, probably about 70 although in the sun it felt warmer. It's supposed to rain tonight though. I went to stand 16 and it just felt good. It was comfortable and I was filled with confidence as I saw a lot of tracks on the way to the stand. I got in the stand around 1:30 and by 2:15 I saw a deer in the middle of the field. I saw it for a while and then I didn't. I have the feeling that it bedded down in the middle. Shortly after that, around 2:45 I had a 3 point buck walk from the pit towards my stand. He walked right down the path and then under my stand. He stood there feeding for so long I could have shot him 10 times but wanted to wait for a bigger buck. Then after that, I had a small doe walk from the field towards my stand. She too stood there feeding 10 yards from me. I really debated shooting her but she was small and I just didn't feel like it. At around 4:30 or so I had a really nice doe walk from the shrub up the hill across the path but she went straight across and didn't come to me. She was about 50 yards away. I did see, through the brush, a doe and two fawns. They must have either caught my scent or some movement because they noticed me before I noticed them. They were coming down the field from the top and turned and went back where they came from (not that I would have shot anyway). During this entire night I kept swatting jumping spiders!! They were all over me!! What a great post this was!! (except the spiders).

My back yard
Fall is here! Considering how hot it was on Saturday, today it's barely in the 60's and it feels great! I decided to leave work a bit early and go hunting. I wanted to try behind my house for a change. I got home, dressed, got my stuff and headed out through the gate. After a few minutes of finding a decent tree to get up, I climbed and settled in. I could hear people cutting the lawn, kids playing, etc. I have to admit, I felt a little uneasy but if my neighbor (the police officer) said it was ok, and the guys I met setting up their stand (a police officer) said it was ok, it must be ok. As the light started to fade I happened to turn to my left and saw three does walking towards me. There were two medium sized does and one smallie. Unfortunately it was to my left so I couldn't draw on them, but I watched the bigger of the two try to make out what I was. She walked to about 23 yards and needed to take a few more steps for me to be able to draw on her but never did. They all decided to walk back from where they came. At dark I got down and went home. I'm not sure if there's anything besides those three deer in the woods but I'll give it another shot again.

Face to face
I went to the club today. I was the only one there, and probably because it was too damned hot to hunt deer. It was in the mid 80's and in the sun it was downright scorching. I had planned on taking my stand on going up a tree on the old farm road a little further down the field from where I had been sitting. That's where I've been seeing deer. When I got to the club I walked the road looking for a tree to climb and there was nothing...well nothing near where I wanted to be. So, instead, I saw a cutout from the farm road to the field and I saw that I could sit up against a tree, about 15 yards back from the field, so that's what I did. It was still so hot...bugs, flies, sweat...it was not very comfortable. As the afternoon faded, the weather became a little more tolerable and at about 5:30 I saw three deer enter the field. To my surprise, they came from my right (and I don't know where they could have come in the field from?). I watched them for a bit and noticed that they started to come closer. Then, suddenly, I heard one of them start to snort. They must have winded me from all that damned sweat. They weren't sure what was going on but they knew something was going on. That didn't stop them, however. One of them walked from the field, straight at me. She looked at me from the field and knew something wasn't right but couldn't figure it out so she walked right to me. She got to about 15 yards (if not closer) and just looked at me. She never turned broadside and then suddenly, she turned (the wrong way) and walked away and joined her friends who had just decided to move along. I stayed until it was dark and left without seeing anything else.
